Sustainability by conviction

At UniCredit Schoellerbank Invest, we have always combined investment with responsibility. Our well thought-out sustainability strategy is in perfect harmony with that of Schoellerbank and combines proven investment criteria with a clear focus on the environment, social issues and corporate governance with integrity.

UniCredit Schoellerbank Invest has many years of experience in sustainable investments; the company launched its first sustainable fund around 20 years ago. We develop solutions that aim to achieve an attractive risk/return ratio, whilst at the same time being convinced that the integration of ESG factors usefully complements the analysis of long-term risks and opportunities. We also draw on the expertise of the 'Advisory Board for Ethics and Sustainability'.

Returns and responsibility - no contradiction

Numerous studies have shown that sustainability factors may be relevant to a company’s fundamental indicators as well as its long-term risks and opportunities. For you, this means that  by adopting a sustainability-focused investment approach, you can specifically incorporate sustainability criteria into your investment decisions whilst investing in innovative companies with future potential.

In our view, sustainability criteria and a focus on returns are not fundamentally mutually exclusive. Our experience shows that sustainable investment solutions compare favourably with conventional investments.

Sustainability encompasses more than just ecological responsibility

We invest where we see long-term economic prospects and strong ESG characteristics. For us, "sustainability" means much more than just environmental responsibility.

We take a holistic approach that also reveals a company´s true innovative strength and future viability:

  • Resource efficiency and environmental protection: Resource efficiency and environmental protection: conserves valuable resources and saves money
  • Fair working conditions and social responsibility: motivating employees and driving the business forward
  • Transparent and responsible corporate governance: building trust with shareholders and on the market

Benefits

  • Return potential of securities
  • Risk diversification compared with an investment in individual securities
  • Professional fund management ensures optimised investment
  • The fund units can be sold at their current market value at any time (but note the recommended minimum investment period)
  • Sustainable investments are also possible
  • Fund assets are fully segregated from the assets of the investment company

Risks

  • The value and return of an investment cannot be guaranteed
  • Capital losses due to market fluctuations – up to and including total loss – are possible (the price change risk largely depends on the type of fund)
  • Foreign currencies may have a negative impact on the investment
  • Inflation risk: the risk that inflation will erode the purchasing power of the invested capital
  • Costs reduce income
  • Some funds are dependent on the performance of a specific market (e.g. regional funds, thematic funds, sustainable funds).

Sustainable funds – investing with foresight

Our sustainable funds are based on a fundamental analysis, which in turn is based on ESG criteria.

  • “E" stands for environmental,
  • "S" for social
  • and "G" for governance (responsible corporate management).

Focus on innovation

The focus is on companies whose products, services or processes provide solutions to selected environmental and social challenges and which meet our criteria. As an investor, you can invest in the knowledge that you are investing in innovative technologies, forward-looking business models and companies that are committed to fair working conditions, transparency and ethically sound business practices..

Clear exclusion criteria

We rigorously exclude all companies that operate in controversial business areas or generate significant turnover in areas that do not meet our ethical and environmental standards. Our selection process is based on two key factors: a long-term earnings outlook and a clear sustainability profile.

Awarded the Austrian Ecolabel

The Austrian Ecolabel is a special quality seal: It is awarded by the Federal Ministry of  Climate Action to funds that take account of environmental and social criteria in addition to economic criteria when selecting securities.

We are proud that some of our funds have been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel (currently only available in German) – confirmation that these funds meet the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel.

Sustainability – the cornerstones of our investment strategy

We are convinced that investing successfully and being committed to environmental and social values are two sides of the same coin. With Schoellerbank Invest’s sustainable funds, we offer you the opportunity to invest for the long term whilst taking environmental and social criteria into account.

During the analysis, we focus on two key characteristics:

  • Economic stability: sound business models for long-term success
  • Long-term sustainability: responsible use of resources and the environment

Our process is based on two key elements:

  • A traditional fundamental analysis
  • and a valuation process based on modern ESG criteria.

Both must be in harmony for us to consider an investment

  • reduce their CO₂ emissions,
